In the publication business, fairness is the key to winning confidence, and thanks to Dr. Isma, we have come to learn that. When we started CSMS Magazine, we were very hesitant. Although we never stopped receiving kind words of encouragement, we were able to come this far because of the leadership of Dr. Ardain Isma—a man whose sincerity, wisdom and passion for social justice go beyond comparison. There is no profit in what we do. We only are motivated by the desire to help the poor, the disenfranchised, the deprived, the homeless, and all those whose misfortunes are the direct results of others’ misdeeds. Dr. Isma is our guiding light, our teacher and our man of the year. His writings have touched the lives of many, and their testimonies can speak for themselves. “I read Alicia Maldonado: A Mother Lost three times. When I first read the book, I thought Dr. Isma was directly talking to me. I couldn’t stop thinking of Alicia,” one reader wrote. A novelist in his own right, Dinco, as we call him, truly has the magic touch to shake souls. His passion for literature, for social justice, for his native country Haiti has profoundly shaped his thinking. His essays on literature can be read on the Literature section. He is a frantic personage, who does not believe in telling people what they want to hear to please their ego. He will always tell the truth, whether the truth will cause pain.It takes a lot of guts to lead, and Dr. Isma has plenty. He is leading a home along with his beautiful wife Maryse and their four children; he is also a college professor, a community activist and a writer. He is just completed his second novel—a gut-wrenching manuscript on the political state of Haiti to be released some time in 2007. One wonders how he does it.Just like Roger Fulton says, Dr. Ardain Isma believes that leadership is “the art of influencing and directing people in such way as to obtain their willing obedience, confidence, respect and cooperation.” Dr. Isma always reminds us that no one can lead himself. He has to have someone to follow him. Dr. Ardain Isma is indeed our leader and our man of the year. We LOVE YOU!
