Tackling the problem of parental involvement

parentalCSMS Magazine

In response to a reader’s comment about our parental involvement article, we find it to be important to reinforce it. The reader suggested that because of financial hardships, parental involvement will always be a problem. The reader went on to suggest that many of these parents are resorted to work 2, 3 jobs just to make ends meet. We agree.

That’s one of the hurdles our inner city parents have to overcome, and because of this financial burden, our minority children are at a complete disadvantage. Our youngsters deserve the best. However, like everything else in life, they have fallen victims of their own misery. Suburbanites, who have the means to sustain a proactive parental involvement and the financial power to acquire extracurricular activities, are ironically being showered with the latest/high-tech materials. Their classroom environment is 5-stars. Meanwhile, our inner city schools are lagging behind in adequate materials to teach their academically disadvantaged students.

  2. This article is proof that eyes are observing and ears are listening to the innumerable devilish problems that are ravaging our inner cities. Obviously, the problems are much more complex than meets the eyes; hence, they could not be compressed to fit in this short article. Thus, as the title states, we can tackle the issues by starting a conversation about them. And that’s what I see here.

We are all touched by this problem at various levels and in our own ways. Personally, I have given it much considerable thought over the years. Thank you, team, for starting the conversation.

    Thank you!
