In a spectacular twist today, FBI Director James B. Comey, a Republican, in a letter to Congress, said federal law enforcement officials have uncovered fresh documents which “appear to be pertinent to the [Clinton] investigation.” The letter also said these “emails had surfaced in an unrelated case.” Comey goes on to say that he doesn’t know how long it is going to take to look at those emails in order to determine whether or not there is legal ground to change the outcome of the first investigation that was closed back in July. This presumably bombshell was dropped around 10:30 this morning. Congressional Republicans immediately seized upon the letter and alerted all the major news organizations.
By 3 pm, we learned from the New York Times the newly revealed emails never came from Hillary’s private server. According to the Times, they were found in “seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton, and her husband, Anthony D. Weiner.”
Republicans, who have been humiliated for months over Donald Trump’s debacle campaign and who are on the verge of losing their majority in the Senate, jumped on the news to put Clinton in a box. Many observers question the motive behind the release of such a potentially damaging news just 11 days before the presidential election. Even if the intention was noble, the mire fact it didn’t come from Hillary’s server and there is no legal ground—at least not yet—to base the Republican assertion on or to frame Hillary with, the damage can only be political, not criminal.
Donald Trump and his band of bigots are rejoicing. There are a lot of folks in America who feel threatened by the growing demographic changes in society. They’re slowly losing their dominance, and Donald Trump, as ugly his message is, is nothing but their savior of the last hour. Even if he were a manikin, they would vote for him.
Hillary Clinton has a huge baggage, and the DNC knew it. They decided to go along with her at the expense of Bernie Sanders because they wanted to uphold the status quo and because Barack Obama, traditional politician, feared his legacy could be overshadowed by Bernie’s progressive agenda. The election has always been theirs, and theirs to lose. I completely understand when someone says he will not vote for Hillary Clinton; but when someone tells me the alternative is Trump, he’s got me dumbfounded.
Donald Trump is the standard bearer of white supremacy—a demagogue who never hides his gross disdain for immigrants and people of immigrant descents. It is not surprising that he has been endorsed by the forces of darkness: The Alt Right, the Aryan Nation, the Klan and many other shadowy groups from the fringe. The man, who has called Mexicans rapists, drug dealers and who has called women pigs, was himself caught on tape bragging about his sexual assaults on women. He is the grand wizard of the birther movement against Obama, the first African-American president.
Donald Trump, idiotically repugnant with a complete lack of intellectual curiosity, may find a lifeline in Comey’s last minute “bombshell.” His message of hate was losing steam until this afternoon. The FBI Director may say whatever he wants to say, this action will undoubtedly go down in history as an attempt to influence the outcome of a hotly contested presidential election. If the intention was to skew the results, will it? I’m not convinced because many voters, who are voting Hillary, are not voting for her; they’re voting against Trump.
