Yesterday at the UNF’s University Center, an important professional gathering took place under the leadership of Florida Association of International Educators (FAIE) and Sister Cities—an organization that works in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office in order to promote cultural exchanges between Jacksonville and cities around the world that have entered a partnership with the River City.

The event started with a short speech by Crystal Broughan, president of Sister Cities, welcoming everyone at attendance and also recapping the many cities that have already tied with Jacksonville. Then, she introduced Dr. Joanne Davis, Supervisor of World Languages Duval County Public Schools. As usual, Dr. Davis held the audience spellbound, mixing facts and anecdotes to stress the importance of cross-cultural awareness.

The main theme was “Study Abroad” and International Students/Scholars/ESL. Safety of our students as well as that of our international students was also one of the major themes of yesterday’s workshop. Representatives of several colleges and universities in the North Florida region were present, including representatives of University of Florida (UF), University of Jacksonville (JU), Saint Johns River State College (SJRSC), Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) etc… It was indeed an enjoyable experience.
