It was a cordial moment this morning inside the University Center here at UNF. A delegation of business people from Nantes, France, was in town exploring business opportunities on the First Coast. Jacksonville is increasingly becoming a sprawling metropolis with a flourishing high-tech industry, an established social service industry, a giant import-export industry through Jax Port and more…. This morning event was sponsored by Sister Cities (SC), an organization that promotes joint ventures between Jax and other cities around the world. Today’s theme was “Doing Business with France.”
The openings remarks were done by Sister Cities President Crystal Broughan. Then, Dr. Joanne Davis, Supervisor of World Languages and also a professor here at UNF and colleague of Dr. Ardain Isma, took the podium for some interesting remarks, stressing the needs for stronger cooperation with the two cities. Shortly after Dr. Joanne Davis’ remarks, Theodore Carter, who serves as first Executive Director for the City of Jacksonville, rose to the microphone and delivered a short but meticulous speech, welcoming the business people at attendance. Mr. Carter also serves as Mayor Alvin Brown‘s economic advisor and liaison to the Jacsonville, Duval County, and North Florida region’s business community.
Other speakers were Robert Blumel who serves as Director, Business Development for Invest France Agency, New York; Kevin Monanhan who serves as Certified Business Analysts for the Florida Small Business Development Center here at UNF; Annick Scotts, a representative for the Nantes business community, and more……
As autumn tightens its grip on the First Coast and the trees begin to shed their leaves, Business ventures can still come down from the north to the River City—Jacksonville’s nickname for its network of bridges, beautiful waterways and breathtaking creeks that are tributaries to the mighty Saint Johns River, the largest river of Florida.
Truly, Jacksonville is a booming city worth exploring. More pictures can be found in oue Facebook Fan Page. www.facebook.com/csmsmagazine
