Last Friday, Belgian sensation Stromae won three awards at Victoires de la Musique, an annual Francophone music award commonly called the French Grammys. Stromae, 28, whose real name is Paul van Haver, won Best Male Artist, Best Album for “Racine Carrée” and Best Video for his song “Formidable.”The award ceremony was held at the Zénith Theater in Paris.

Also, Vanessa Paradis was crowned Female Artist of the year. She was the only woman to win the prize three times. The first time she won was in 1990.

Daft Punk, the electro duo which won five songs at last month’s Grammys was noticeably absent after refusing to participate. Daft Punk was chickened out, some people in the audience said. Many said the duo feel they have been brushed off in the past. They have never won an award at Victoires de la Musique.
