It was a dazzling moment when 19-year-old Nerlens Noel’s name was called tonight as the 6th draftee during the NBA Annual Draft. His parents were there on force to witness, like the rest of the world, this historic moment. The pick was made by the New Orleans Pelicans which quickly traded him with Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for guard Jrue Holiday.

Noel is the son of Haitian immigrants who lived in Everett, Massachusetts, where he was born. He is reportedly to be a star to be reckoned with. He played one season at the University of Kentucky. His position on the court is power forward and center. He was one of the top high school basketball players in the class of 2012. Nerlens Noel is very popular for his trademark hi-top fade hairstyle. Along with Samuel Dalambert and Blake Griffin, Noel has just joined a long list of Haitians, sons of immigrants, to leave their marks in professional sports in the United States. It’s a night for all Haitians to feel truly proud.
