Career and Technical Education is part of a key High School program that provides the link between the needs of the labor market and the needs for young people to be fully prepared to move into the workforce or continue their career-focused education and training beyond high school. Too many students, who graduate from college, lack the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the job market. This has sparked a renewed interest in career technical education.
C.T.E (Career Technical Education) repeatedly surfaces in discussion of “college and career readiness”—a phrase, much in use these days, that implies, “college ready” and “career ready” are one in the same. The evidence, however, contradicts the rhetoric. Both testing and labor-market experts argue that being prepared for college is not the same as being prepared for a successful transition into the workforce.
