By Maryse IsmaSpecial to CSMS MagazineWomen with unfaithful husbands are more likely to contract cervical cancer. A study of more than 1,200 men and women found that women whose husbands have other sexual partners are five to ten times as likely to develop cervical cancer as those whose husbands do not stray. Incidence was eight times greater for women whose husbands frequented prostitutes. Researchers theorize that husbands contract the human papilloma virus (HPV) during their extramarital liaisons and bring it home to their wives. General HPV infections are known to cause cervical cancer.Sex and Urinary Tract InfectionsFrequent sex raises a women’s risk for urinary tract infection (UTI)…as does using diaphragm with spermicide. According to a recent study, women who had sexual intercourse three times a week were three times more likely to have a UTI than women who abstained from sex. Intercourse introduces vaginal bacteria into the bladder. Spermicide kills beneficial bacteria but leaves infection causing ones unharmed.UTI Warning About 18% of urinary tract infections (UTIs) are now resistant to the most commonly prescribed antibiotic, trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole (Bacterium)—up from up from about 10% five years ago. UTI symptoms include abnormally colored of bloody urine …frequent or painful urination…and pressure in the lower pelvis. If antibiotics do not clear up symptoms within two days, consult your physician about prescribing a different antibiotic. Drink plenty of water, urinate frequently and immediately after sexual intercourse and practice good hygiene will help avoid UTIs.Also see Important tips to fight General Environmental Allergies
