Miami’s Haitian Community throws its hope behind Ronald Brisé after major electoral defeat

CSMS Magazine staff WritersRonald Brisé, a young Haitian-American newcomer, won the democratic primary easily Tuesday, raising the hope that all is not lost for a community that has been struggling for over ten years to establish itself in South Florida.  Brise and Judge R. Robinson were the only two in a field of more than half dozen Haitian-American candidates to win.  In the crowded race for Miami-Dade’s open Democratic seat, Brisé triumphed in District 108 over fellow Democrats Kathy Emery, Hans Laurenceau, Eddie Lewis and Peter Walsh. It was an easy victory, according to Miami Herald.   Brisé, who boasted the endorsement of Brutus, the previous representative for that area, will face Republican Prospero Herrera II, a former Miami Shores councilman, in November. Philippe Brutus himself lost his bid to win a seat in Miami city council.   Since the Jean Monestime’s electoral debacle in the city of North Miami two years ago, the Haitian Community in South Florida has been soul searching, as community leaders do not know what Sen Denden to pray in order to regain the initiative. Lack of cohesiveness and deep division among many self-proclaim chiefs has been the main drive behind these latest setbacks, experts agree. An analysis of the South Florida’s Haitian community is forthcoming. Also see Rene Preval: https://csmsmagazine.org/news.php?pg=20060627I145
