CSMS Magazine

As promised earlier this month, CSMS Magazine Summer Reading list is here. We all know reading is the best therapy not only for the mind, but also for the soul and body. Reading keeps you informed on the latest craze or trend, the newest literary event and, of course, on what needs to be done for your everyday living so that it could be a manageable undertaking.

In this magazine, we believe in the power of knowledge which can only happen through the acquiring of tangible and strategic information. While promoting education—multicultural education—we have always put the emphasis on reading. Without further commentary, here is the list:

  1. Alicia Maldonado: A Mother Lost by Ardain Isma
  2. Maswife by Patrick Sylvain
  3. The Stone That The Builder Refused by Madison Smart Bell
  4. The Dew Braker by Edwige Danticat
  5. The Scorpion’s Claw by Myriam Chancy
  6. Paradoxe by Jeanie Bogart
  7. The Souls of Black Folks (a classic) by W.E.B. Dubois
  8. Le Regard Engagé by Gérald Bloncourt
  9. L’espace D’un Cillement by Jacques Stephen Alexis translated into English by Edwige Danticat and Carrol Coates as In The Flicker of an Eyelid.

10.  The Arc of Justice by Kevin Boyle

All of these books have been vetted and deemed to be quite interesting for a summer evening or during a trip to the country. They all can be found on Amazon as well as on other online booksellers. So, enjoy. Keep CSMS informed about your reading experience. I love you all!

Note: Gyna Jean-Pierre is our book reviewer. She is a creative writer. She is the author of several essays on women in the Caribbean. She lives in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
